Child & Youth Counselling

Qualified, Compassionate Support for Young Hearts and Developing Minds

I offer traditional counselling that is friendly and fun for children (ages 7+) and teens who are navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, social challenges, addiction or emotional overwhelm.

Rooted in clinical expertise, each session is age‑appropriate, intentional, and tailored to support your child’s personal growth and well-being.

10+ Years Experience

I have been working with youth my entire career. This includes over 7 years experience with SHA Child & Youth Mental Health Counselling.

Who I Support

  • Children aged 7–12 and adolescents up to 17

  • Kids facing anxiety, depression, addiction, mood swings, behavioral concerns, grief, or life challenges.

  • Teens navigating school pressures, self‑esteem issues, social stress, or big life transitions

I also provide parent‑child sessions so caregivers can build emotional awareness, communication skills, and keep growth moving forward beyond the therapy room.

Is Your Child Highly Sensitive?

Many children are wired with deeply sensitive or empathic nervous systems—which often goes unnoticed or misunderstood.

Here are some signs to watch for:

Intense emotional reactions — meltdown over minor upsets, or sudden tears on happy news

Easily overstimulated — bothered by labels, abrupt noises, bright lights, or crowds

Deep empathy — can feel others’ emotions before they speak, avoids sad media or scenes they have not lived

Perfectionism & low tolerance for mistakes — avoids new challenges, tears up at criticism or perceived failure

Over-processing environments and social cues — slow to respond, notices subtle changes others miss

Unable to focus or finds seemingly “simple” situations challenging — struggles with relationships or social situations. This can often be perceived as anxiety or ADHD.

My Therapeutic Approach:

  • Play Therapy: Offers a child’s natural language play as a way to express emotions, foster resilience, and resolve inner conflict without words. It’s powerful for younger kids who struggle with verbal expression.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Builds emotional awareness and skillful thinking. CBT helps children rewrite unhelpful mental loops like catastrophizing or self-criticism to ease anxiety and behavioral stress.
  • Family or Caregiver Involvement: When parents and caregivers engage in sessions, therapy becomes a family wide shift, not just an individual one.
  • Trauma-Informed Care: When trauma plays a role, I use trauma‑sensitive methods to ensure healing proceeds at your child’s pace in true emotional safety.

Every strategy is developmentally grounded and attuned to your child’s cognitive, emotional, and sensory needs.

When Child Counselling Makes Sense

You know your kid best. Consider counselling if you notice:

  • Frequent meltdowns or emotional shutdowns

  • New fears, sleep troubles, or physical symptoms that don’t respond to medical checks

  • A shift from their usual behaviors—like social withdrawal, irritability, or acting out

  • Difficulty coping with loss, change, transitions, or big milestones

Early intervention matters and counselling can be a safe space for healing before it becomes more complicated.
